Under the general supervision of the Executive Director of Maintenance, Operations and Transportation or designee, the Skilled Maintenance
- Multi-Trade Specialist performs a wide variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties across multiple trades in the construction, maintenance, repair, and modernization of District buildings, facilities, and grounds; performs journeyman-level work in one or more trades and supports work in additional trades including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, welding, and general construction; ensures systems are safe, reliable, and compliant with applicable codes and regulations;
supports preventive maintenance programs and a coordinated, service-oriented maintenance model; and performs related duties as assigned.
Supervision is received from the Executive Director of Maintenance and Operations or designee. This classification does not exercise supervision.
The Skilled Maintenance – Multi-Trade Specialist is the journey-level classification responsible for independently performing skilled work across several trades and supporting a wide range of maintenance and minor construction projects. Incumbents are expected to demonstrate proficiency in one or more trades while assisting in others. Incumbents are expected to diagnose issues, determine appropriate corrective actions, and complete work with minimal direction across District facilities.
Incumbents operate as part of a collaborative maintenance team and are expected to support overall department operations beyond a single trade specialty. This includes assisting other trades, supporting multi-trade projects, and contributing to shared workload demands to ensure timely completion of work and continuity of operations.
Incumbents may provide guidance, direction, or technical support to assigned staff, assistants, or employees supporting work activities; however, this classification does not include ongoing responsibility for assigning, prioritizing, or formally reviewing the work of others, which is characteristic of the Skilled Maintenance – Lead Multi-Trade Specialist.
