To plan, implement, monitor, and supervise educational activities that promote English Language Arts (ELA), and Math instruction for elementary students in a summer program setting.
Essential Functions- Utilize the Lavinia Rise Curriculum to plan and carry out developmentally appropriate lessons and experiences for elementary school children to advance mastery and development in Math and ELA.
- Coordinate the planning and implementation of daily lessons that incorporate children’s individual goals in Math and ELA.
- Collaborate with partner(s) and program staff to plan for each child’s progress utilizing Lavinia Rise screenings and assessments, parent input, support strategies, and observations.
- Provide robust academic and enrichment programming that helps students to explore their interests, engage in their community, and discover their potential.
- Conduct and record ongoing assessment of students.
- Ensure the health and safety of children, families and staff, per agency, federal, state and local policies.
- Ensure no child is left unsupervised at any time.
- Work with and demonstrate a commitment, caring, and respect for children and adults regardless of race, gender, age, and cultural or ethnic background.
- Be a self-starter with the ability to multitask to meet various deadlines and complete tasks.
- Maintain confidentiality of information related to home and school environment.
- Assist in enrollment and recruitment activities.
- Participate in further professional development by regularly attending state, local training and meetings of relevance to program goals, including training on the Lavinia Rise Curriculum.
- Direct, monitor and evaluate student development in Math and ELA and implement change as necessary.
- Create and maintain a safe, healthy and developmentally focused learning environment.
- Conduct ongoing monitoring of the site, lesson plans, classroom environments, adult‑child interactions and family participation.
- Supervise, attend, monitor and conduct staff meetings and training.
- Maintain the records and other program data as required.
Frequent standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing and using hands to manipulate; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing steps, stooping, bending, kneeling or crouching; must match walking speed with students and may need to run to safeguard students. Job is mainly performed in a school setting, with occasional outdoor activities; noise level typical of a school.
Qualifications- Minimum of a BA/BS Degree in Elementary or Secondary Education from an accredited college or university preferred; BA/BS in progress with an Elementary/Secondary Education Major acceptable.
- CPR/First Aid Certified or ability to obtain certification.
- Proficient knowledge of internet applications and programs including Google technology, Microsoft Office Word and Excel; ability to learn and utilize necessary programs.
- Strong interpersonal and professional skills including professional appearance, tact, punctuality and dependability.
- Ability to communicate effectively to individuals and groups both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work cooperatively with supervisors, colleagues, and all agency staff; provide services for individuals facing economic, social, health, age, and educational barriers.
- Ability to work with children and families with disabilities.
- Ability to establish positive and productive working relationships with parents/caregivers.
- Ability to work independently or in a team environment (as needed).
- Perform work in a professional manner that upholds Wayne Metro’s policies and procedures (including Head Start Standards of Conduct).
- Comply with all policies and procedures, State licensing regulations, Head Start Performance standards and GSRP standards.
- Represent the agency in a professional manner.
- Ability to travel to various sites.
- Valid identification and reliable transportation.
- Although the COVID‑19 vaccination is no longer mandated, it is encouraged;

Monday – Friday, with specific hours (and occasional Saturdays) to be determined by department needs.
