Under the supervision of the Library Services Manager, the incumbent is responsible for cataloguing and classifying materials, while supporting the transition to the integrated library management system. The incumbent may also be required to perform other duties related to the services of the Municipality of La Nation Library, as needed.
Main Responsibilities- Ensure the entry of cataloguing data (in accordance with AACR2 standards) and the classification of materials in the integrated library management system using the MARC format;
- Maintain the accuracy and consistency of the catalogue across all collections;
- Provide the Library Manager with periodic summaries of catalogued materials for reporting and planning purposes;
- Perform any other related duties as required.
Education
- College diploma in Library and Information Technology or equivalent training in library cataloguing.
- 2 years of experience in a similar position gained in a government, school, or public library setting.
- Proficiency in oral and written French and English.
- Proficiency in the MS 365 Office suite (Word, Excel, Teams).
- Knowledge of the following tools: AACR (Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules), OCLC World Cat, and Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH);
- Proficiency in RDA (Resource Description and Access), the Dewey Decimal Classification system, and the MARC
21 format; - Understanding of how an integrated library management system operates.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to set and manage priorities independently;
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, essential due to the technical nature of the work;
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, with a strong aptitude for learning and using new systems and applications, considered an asset.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift loads of approximately 10 to 25 kg (22 to 55 lb).
- The work environment may occasionally be noisy.
Hours
- 14 to 21 hours per week
- Contract of approximately 3 to 4 months
- $35.03 to $39.66 per hour (depending on experience)
