ABOUT INUVIALUIT REGIONAL CORPORATION (IRC)

Established in 1984 to manage the settlement outlined in the Inuvialuit Final Agreement (IFA), Inuvialuit Regional Corporation (IRC) represents the collective interests of Inuvialuit. IRC’s goal is to continually improve the economic, social and cultural wellbeing of the Inuvialuit through implementation of the IFA and by all other available means. Through strong partnerships and community‑driven programs, the organization supports economic growth, cultural preservation and opportunities for current and future generations.

Inuvialuit beneficiaries directly control IRC and its subsidiaries through a democratic process of elected directors from each of the six community corporations with chairs at the IRC Board, a process originally outlined in the IFA.

JOB SUMMARY

The Program Support Worker, Youth Arctic Sports and Mental Wellness Programs supports the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of community-based wellness initiatives across the Inuvialuit Settlement Region. This position focuses on promoting youth Arctic sports, mental wellness, addictions prevention, suicide prevention, cultural connection, healthy lifestyles, and community resilience.

Working under the direction of the Senior Manager, Wellness Programs, the Program Support Worker provides program, logistical, and administrative support for wellness initiatives aligned with the ISR Suicide Prevention Strategy, Aulaatigiqta, Ilumun Ikayuqatigiikluta – Moving Forward, Healing Together, and other Indigenous Services Canada-funded programs, including the Expanded Youth Arctic Sports and Mental Health Program. The role works closely with Community Corporations, Elders, youth, community partners, and the IRC Health and Wellness Team to support community wellness, resilience, and cultural connection across the ISR.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must be/have:

  • Experience in the delivery Wellness Programs, Community Development, Recreation, or a related field. Equivalencies will be considered.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience coordinating programs, projects, or community initiatives.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities and knowledge of the impacts of colonization, intergenerational trauma, and residential school legacy issues.
  • Knowledge of the Inuvialuit Settlement Region, Inuvialuit culture, and the Inuvialuit Final Agreement.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Preference will be given to candidates with the following:

  • Experience in mental wellness, addictions prevention, suicide prevention, cultural programming, proposal development, or community wellness initiatives is an asset.
  • Preference may be given to qualified Inuvialuit beneficiaries.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within the region.
