Job Summary:
The Transportation Logistics Specialist will perform activities that ensure efficient truck transportation of materials and products from origin to destination for the CHS Ag and Energy Platforms. This professional will participate in identifying and selecting the most appropriate and cost-effective truck transportation solutions.
This role provides stakeholders in product lines with accurate and market-based freight pricing, ensures freight rates are properly loaded into rating systems, and builds a strong understanding of freight markets to communicate insights and trends across the organization. Potential overtime during harvest season; must be open to working OT hours. Two rounds of interviews will be conducted.
Key Responsibilities:
Support enterprise transportation carrier management strategy through rate negotiations, relationship management, capacity management, truck carrier segmentation, and overall spend management
Negotiate rates with carriers, maximize load pairing (backhauls), and drive value creation across product lines
Analyze transportation operations practices to resolve process and cost improvement opportunities
Negotiate rates and contract terms ensuring transportation services are competitive and aligned with business objectives
Serve as subject matter expert on transportation markets and rates
Ensure third-party transportation relationships are profitable and accretive to business unit earnings
Monitor carrier performance and KPIs, taking corrective action to reverse negative trends
Update internal documents, spreadsheets, databases, and systems for contracts, freight rates, and volume estimates
Resolve truck freight invoice issues to ensure accurate payments
Monitor and communicate transportation market trends to commercial sales and purchasing teams
Partner with internal teams (commercial, operations, finance) and external customers (vendors and customers) to meet changing business demands
Perform other duties as assigned
Required Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Ag Business, Logistics, or Supply Chain Management
1–2 years of experience in supply chain, transportation, logistics execution, or operational roles
Knowledge of commodity markets, contractual terms, and truck transportation/logistics
Strong negotiation skills
Strong organizational and collaboration skills
Excellent communication skills
Ability to manage time-sensitive issues with urgency
Nice-to-Have Experience:
Experience in agribusiness or energy logistics
Experience with freight rate management systems
Experience supporting multi-product line transportation environments
