We are looking for an experienced Telecommunications Engineer to join our team in Inverness. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in maintaining and developing critical telecommunications infrastructure while delivering high levels of service to our customers. You will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair of Neos Networks' telecommunications network and associated equipment. Working independently and alongside internal teams, contractors and customers, you'll provide technical expertise, support operational delivery, and contribute to the successful completion of network projects.
Key Responsibilities- Installation & Maintenance – carry out installation, inspection, maintenance and repair activities on telecommunications network infrastructure and associated equipment. Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently and in line with company procedures and service standards. Accurately record work completed and communicate outcomes to relevant stakeholders.
- Fault Diagnosis & Network Restoration – investigate, diagnose and resolve network faults across a range of technologies. Coordinate with Neos Networks teams, Power Systems, Generation teams and specialist contractors to restore services within agreed targets. Take ownership of fault resolution activities, ensuring timely and effective outcomes.
- Operational & Project Delivery – manage multiple operational and service delivery projects, including resource planning, equipment procurement, design implementation and change control processes. Provide regular progress updates to project stakeholders and budget owners. Work closely with Resource Coordinators, Team Managers and Project Managers to ensure projects are delivered on time and within scope.
- Team Support & Leadership – provide day‑to‑day support to Team Managers, including work allocation and supervision of team members when required. Share technical expertise and mentor less experienced colleagues. Promote collaboration across teams to support safe, effective and customer‑focused service delivery.
- OnC qualification in a relevant discipline or equivalent industry experience.
- Significant hands‑on experience working on telecommunications networks and associated infrastructure.
- Strong fault‑finding, maintenance and repair skills across a range of core telecommunications technologies, including:
Digital Microwave, PMR, Fibre Networks, Cabling and Termination, PDH, SDH, Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), Scanning Radio Systems. - Experience diagnosing and repairing non‑core technologies with appropriate support and guidance.
- Good understanding of telecommunications systems and how they support customer and business operations.
- Knowledge of health, safety and environmental policies and procedures.
