Build your electrical career with IDM Energy

IDM Energy is looking for a qualified Electrician to join our growing team, based from Inverness.

We deliver reactive maintenance, planned preventative maintenance, electrical testing, installations and project works across Scotland and further afield. Our clients and sites are varied, covering commercial, industrial and residential environments.

This is a hands-on role for someone who takes pride in completing safe, high-quality work, communicates properly and can be trusted to represent IDM Energy professionally.

The work is varied and no two days are exactly the same. You could be fault-finding on a reactive job one day, carrying out planned maintenance or testing the next, and supporting an installation or larger project later in the week.

At IDM Energy, how we do the job matters just as much as getting it done. We value people who take ownership, make sound decisions, support their colleagues and treat clients, suppliers and the wider team with respect.

In plain terms: do good work, record it properly, speak up when something isn’t right and don’t leave the next person to solve a mystery you already knew about.

The role

As an Electrician at IDM Energy, you’ll deliver electrical maintenance, testing, installation and project works across a range of client sites.

You’ll work independently on suitable jobs and alongside other electricians, apprentices, plumbers, heating engineers, joiners and general maintenance technicians where the work requires a wider team.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Completing reactive electrical maintenance and repairs
  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance
  • Installing, altering and upgrading electrical systems
  • Diagnosing electrical faults and delivering safe, practical repairs
  • Completing electrical testing and inspection where appropriately qualified
  • Completing minor works certificates, electrical installation certificates and other required documentation
  • Recording accurate job notes, test results, materials, photographs and completion details
  • Reviewing job information and confirming the required scope before starting work
  • Identifying additional defects or remedial work and reporting them promptly

Ensuring work complies with BS 7671, the Electricity at Work Regulations and applicable industry standards
  • Following company risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work
  • Carrying out safe isolation and proving systems dead before work begins
  • Working across commercial, industrial and residential environments
  • Supporting electrical projects, upgrades, refurbishments and installation works
  • Assisting with site surveys, measurements, material schedules and quotations
  • Communicating clearly with clients, site contacts, colleagues and the office-based team
  • Supporting apprentices and less-experienced members of the team
  • Taking ownership of assigned jobs and following them through to proper completion
  • Looking after company tools, test equipment, materials and vehicles
  • Representing IDM Energy professionally while on site and on the road
  • Travelling throughout the Highlands, Islands and elsewhere in Scotland when required
