Training Instructor / Specialist
The employee in this position will provide Career and Technical Education to prisoners in the Equipment Operation field, Commercial Truck Driving field, and Forklift Operation. The instructor will teach the approved MDOC curriculum, administer written and performance evaluations, maintain a safe work environment, and follow policy and procedure regarding tool control.
Eighty percent of the work week is spent in direct supervision of prisoners inside a secure correctional facility.
Licenses and Experience
- Valid State of Michigan Commercial Driver License Group
A. - Powered Industrial Truck Operator permit.
- Four years of commercial truck driving experience.
- Possession of a Michigan Commercial Drivers License and Powered Industrial Truck Operator Permit (TRDCOMTRDR).
Education
- Associate's degree in the trade or occupation to be taught.
- Alternatively, a bachelor's degree, master's degree, or vocational teacher certification may substitute for the standard education requirement.
- If the candidate has only a high‑school diploma, then completion of the high school curriculum and four years of recent experience in the specific trade, including at least six months of training others, may be substituted for the education requirement.
Applicants who have been convicted of a felony or who have a pending felony charge are ineligible for employment with the Department of Corrections, in accordance with Public Acts 140 and 191. Candidates must also meet the Department’s ethical standards and be willing to disclose any potential conflict of interest.
