Job Description
The employee in this position will provide Career and Technical Education to prisoners in the area of Automotive repair that will provide them with the skills to obtain gainful employment after incarceration. The instructor will teach an approved MDOC curriculum, administer appropriate written and performance evaluations, maintain a safe work environment and follow policy and procedure in regards to tool control.
Eighty percent of the work week is spent in direct supervision of prisoners inside a secure correctional facility.

Required Education And Experience EducationPossession of an associate's degree in an area of the specific trade or occupation to be taught.
ExperienceNo specific type or amount is required.
Alternate Education And ExperiencePossession of an appropriate bachelor's degree, master's degree, or vocational teacher certification may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.
OR
Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school and four years of recent experience in the practice of the specific trade or occupation to be taught, including six months of experience training others in the trade or occupation may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.
Additional Requirements And InformationSome jobs require state certifications for the occupation.

The Department of Corrections will not hire individuals who have been convicted of a felony or who have felony charges pending, in accordance with Public Act 140 of the Public Acts of 1996.

Overnight travel may be required for NCNET.
New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees that are returning after being away from the department for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) with either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their Non-Custody New Employee Training.
