Part-time, 20 hours/week

Wage range: $21.11 – $25.87 per hour

The Ionia County Veterans Service Office is seeking a dedicated Service Officer to help veterans and their families access the benefits and services they’ve earned. This role provides direct support, benefits counseling, and advocacy.

• Assist veterans and families with identifying needs, determining eligibility, and completing benefit claims and appeals.
• Research and analyze information related to disability, medical care, insurance, pension, education, and other benefits.
• Prepare financial reports and assist with debt management and waiver requests.
• Advocate for veterans, including representation before the Board of Veterans’ Appeals.
• Build relationships with community groups and participate in outreach events to educate veterans on available benefits.
• Serve as a liaison between county veteran counselors and the USDVA.
• Support MVAA initiatives and perform other assigned duties.

• Bachelor’s degree preferred; military experience at E-6 or above may substitute.
• Strong research, analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to interpret laws, policies, and regulations.
• Must be able to obtain accreditation through a USDVA-certified Veteran Service Organization.

Mostly office-based with computer work; some travel required for meetings, outreach and events.
