Insurance Sales Agent | Kara Ruehs Agency

Ionia, MI

Turn Your People Skills Into a Career

Some people are naturally good at connecting with others. They can start a conversation, earn someone's trust, understand what they need, and help them make a decision with confidence.

If that sounds like you, those skills could translate extremely well into insurance.

The Kara Ruehs Agency is adding an Insurance Sales Agent to our team in Ionia. We're looking for someone who is motivated, personable, and ready to learn. Previous insurance experience is welcome, but it isn't required. Successful candidates may come from sales, retail, hospitality, banking, healthcare, customer service, or any role where communicating with people was a big part of the job.

We'll teach you the insurance side. We're looking for someone who brings the attitude, work ethic, and willingness to grow.

What Your Day Could Look Like

This is an active, client-focused sales position. You'll spend your time connecting with potential customers, learning about their needs, and helping them make informed decisions about their coverage.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Speaking with prospective customers and following up with leads

  • Asking questions to understand each client's situation and coverage needs

  • Providing quotes and explaining available insurance options

  • Helping clients with Auto, Home, Life, Business, and additional insurance products

  • Identifying opportunities to provide additional coverage to existing customers

  • Following up consistently with prospects throughout the sales process

  • Developing relationships that continue beyond the initial sale

  • Tracking conversations, leads, and follow-ups in the agency's CRM

  • Working toward individual production goals and contributing to agency growth

What Makes Someone Successful Here?

Insurance knowledge can be taught. We're more interested in finding someone who is comfortable communicating with people and motivated to improve.

You may be a great fit if you:

  • Enjoy starting conversations and getting to know new people

  • Are comfortable working toward measurable goals

  • Can hear "no" without letting it ruin the rest of your day

  • Take initiative instead of waiting to be told what to do

  • Follow through on commitments and stay organized

  • Are open to feedback and willing to adjust your approach

  • Want your performance to have an impact on your earning potential

  • Are interested in building a career you can continue growing in

Experience and Licensing

At least one year of experience in sales, customer service, retail, hospitality, banking, healthcare, insurance, or another people-focused position is preferred.

An existing Property & Casualty or Life & Health insurance license is a plus, but you can also apply if you're willing to complete the licensing process.

Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.

Training and Support

Starting a new industry can feel like a big jump, which is why you won't be expected to figure everything out on your own.

You'll receive training and coaching as you learn the products, sales process, and day-to-day responsibilities of working in an insurance agency. You'll have the opportunity to continue developing your skills as you gain experience and become more confident in the role.

For someone interested in long-term advancement, there are also opportunities to develop into leadership and potentially explore agency ownership with Farmers Insurance in the future.

Compensation and Benefits
  • Base salary plus uncapped commission

  • Additional performance bonuses and incentives

  • Paid training and continued coaching

  • Paid time off and holidays

  • Flexible scheduling options based on agency needs

  • Health insurance stipend or assistance when available

  • Professional development and advancement opportunities

  • Long-term opportunity to pursue agency ownership

Ready for Something New?

You don't need to have spent years in insurance to build a successful career in it.
