Accountant
The University of Iowa, Accounts Payable Department is seeking a qualified Accountant to perform and coordinate day-to-day accounting and finance activities. This position is responsible for reviewing procurement card, travel and other payable transactions to ensure compliance with Board of Regent and University policies, as well as ensuring proper reporting. Providing customer service and training to others in our department as well as users on campus.
The position will work in a team environment. This position must be proficient in the use of People Soft and E-Pro programs, AP/PO PS Web Application, MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook), and other conventional office equipment. This position is not eligible for University sponsorship for employment authorization.
Duties Include:
- Reviews and approves financial transactions to ensure compliance, accurate account allocation, and proper reporting.
- Researches and analyzes information to resolve inquiries and support informed financial decisions.
- Processes and audits financial transactions to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely month-end and year-end close activities.
- Provides financial systems and policy guidance, exercising judgment to evaluate business purpose, public purpose requirements, and documentation sufficiency.

100% Remote
Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm
Salary: $43,240 to commensurate
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience (typically 6 months) related accounting experience.
- Must be proficient in computer software applications/demonstrated competence with Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Good organizational and analytical/statistical skills as well as attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated presentation skills.
Desirable
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of automated accounting systems is desirable.
- Knowledge of University business policies and procedures is desirable.
- Familiarity with People Soft Financials and E-Pro Systems is desirable.
- Experience analyzing data for fraudulent activity.
- Experience with Microsoft Access.
