Role Expectations
- Patient Care
- Provide compassionate, appropriate, and effective patient care, promoting health, preventing illness, treating disease, and caring for patients at the end of life.
- Develop and implement outpatient treatment plans with the multidisciplinary team.
- Write accurate and concise histories, physicals, and interval notes for appropriate billing.
- Perform procedures as dictated by the privileging process.
- Educate patients, families, residents, medical students, and nursing staff regarding the treatment plan.
- Evaluate and develop treatment plans for patients with Surgical Oncologic and Endocrine disorders, managing acute and chronic diagnoses independently of staff physicians.
- Medical/Clinical Knowledge
- Perform comprehensive history and physical at appropriate billing level.
- Evaluate and interpret pertinent laboratory and imaging studies.
- Maintain working knowledge of pharmacology, antibiotic stewardship, and narcotic prescribing practices.
- Participate in metrics for OPPE as set forth by UI Health Care's Chief Medical Officer and Department of Surgery.
- Practice-Based Learning and Improvement
- Participate in quality assurance and research endeavors.
- Develop and implement clinical guideline protocols and educational materials.
- Participate in educational and multidisciplinary rounds and conferences.

Percent of Time: 100%
Schedule: 40 hours per week. A 30 minute lunch is included. Hours may vary based on departmental needs.

Pay Grade: 11

- Comply with Iowa Board of Physician Assistant Examiners registration and licensure requirements: graduation from an accredited PA program and NCCPA certification.
- Active Iowa Physician Assistant license.
- Active DEA license or ability to apply before or upon hire.
- Active ACLS certification.
- Extensive knowledge of physical assessment, differential diagnosis, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and management of Surgical Oncologic and Endocrine disorders.
- High degree of independence in a multidisciplinary team caring for highly complex patients.
- Knowledge and clinical skills to care for adult and geriatric populations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize workflow.
- Willingness to learn and assist with patients with benign and oncologic thyroid disease.
- Experience with data and quality management projects.
- Two years of experience in Surgery, Endocrinology, or Oncology preferred.
