Job SummaryResponsible for the safe, efficient operation and maintenance of utility systems, which includes but isn’t limited to steam, water, electricity, compressed air, and natural gas—while leading a team, ensuring regulatory compliance, and overseeing department maintenance.
Essential Job Functions- Responsible for utility systems, which includes but isn’t limited to steam, process water, utility wastewater, DIW, cooling water, electricity, compressed air, and natural gas
- Supervises routine industrial steam, water, chilled water and condensate systems analysis and chemical treatment of industrial water systems
- Analyzes operational data and reconfigures operating units as necessary to provide adequate, economical service
- Utility system troubleshooting and equipment failure response
- Utility performance analysis and energy efficiency improvement
- Cost reduction initiatives
- Capital project and commissioning support
- Operational, maintenance, and regulatory documentation management
- Budget and utility cost management support
- Emergency response and on‑call support
- Continuous improvement initiatives
- Investigates abnormal operating events or equipment failures to determine cause; makes adjustments, repairs, and/or modifications as needed
- Responsible for budgets, inventory levels, spare parts, department maintenance and prioritizes projects based on cost‑effectiveness
- Monitors process equipment, temperatures, pressures, levels, flows
- Tracks and creates reports for electrical, water, steam and air consumption
- Prioritizes, plans, organizes and executes projects during maintenance shutdowns and startups
- Identifies and corrects potential problems (troubleshooting) and takes appropriate action to prevent serious equipment failure
- Manages vendor or supplier preventative maintenance contracts, agreements, negotiations, and coordination
- Acts as liaison between contractors, partner companies, utility companies, and the county/city
- Creates and updates standard operating procedures
- Uses a computer to create, compose, and edit technical and/or administrative correspondence, reports, operating procedures and documentation
- Manages Environmental, Health & Safety compliance
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws (hiring, training, performance appraisal, discipline, conflict resolution)
- Creates reports as required, such as chemical inventory report, daily energy and utility report
- Conducts operator training as necessary
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience of plant utilities, including chillers, cooling towers, compressors, and water treatment systems
- Extensive knowledge of steam, process water, utility wastewater, DIW, cooling water, electricity, compressed air, and natural gas
- Understanding of OSHA and process safety requirements
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs and engineering drawings
- Organizational and time‑management skills
- Knowledge of energy conservation and sustainability practices
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Thorough understanding of the work order system, investment budgets, expenses, inventory, assets, warehouse management, and document control
- Leadership and personnel management skills
- Asset management experience
- Project management experience
- Ability to meet and adhere to deadlines
- Data analysis skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work in a safe manner

- Work schedule:
Monday–Friday 8:00 am–5:00 pm; may require additional hours, nights, weekends and holidays - On‑call availability
