It is common to travel in the area three days per week to deploy, maintain, and remove water sensors, and overnight travel is occasional.
This is a specified term position.
This position is not eligible for University sponsorship for employment authorization.
Key Responsibilities:
* Travel statewide on a regular basis (75% of the time) and involvement in occasional overnight fieldwork over periods of varying duration and work in harsh field conditions or inclement weather.
* Occasionally move research and other materials/equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. on your own and weighing 50 to 100 lbs. with assistance.
* Arrange and plan daily activities to prepare for experimental data collection and analysis.
* Set up and operate equipment for data collection.
* Collect, track, and perform data entry for reports.
* Prepare materials for reports.
* Assist in the preparation, calibration, and maintenance of field and laboratory equipment.
* Assist with procurement of supplies and materials.
* Perform a variety of routine tasks related to the collection of data, including supervision of student researchers.
* Serve as contact for Ottumwa Water Works, Agricultural Research Service (ARS) at the USDA, DNR hatcheries in northeast Iowa, and any future stakeholders/collaborators.
* Assist in the preparation, calibration, and maintenance of field and laboratory equipment.
* Assist with procurement of supplies and materials.
* Provide training, direction, assignments, feedback, coaching and counseling of student employees to assure outcomes are achieved.

Education Requirement:
* Bachelor's degree in an environmental-related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Qualifications:
* Some (6 months) experience relevant to the duties of this job description.
* Demonstrated experience with the use of common cordless power tools, chainsaw, and other brush clearing tools.
* A valid driver's license is required and continued compliance with the standards of the University Driving Policy.
* The ability to travel statewide on a regular basis, involvement in occasional overnight fieldwork over periods of varying duration and the ability to work in harsh field conditions or inclement weather.
* Ability to occasionally move up to 50 lbs. unassisted and 50-100 lbs. with assistance.
Desired
Qualifications:
* Some (1-3 years) experience with multiple construction skills.
* Experience maintaining and troubleshooting scientific equipment.
* Basic laboratory skills such as measurement, dilution, etc.
