What You Can Expect

As our Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be a part of the Engineering Team within the Capital Projects structure and will report to the Director of Engineering. This individual will be responsible for leading and delivering on all aspects of engineering scope as related to operations and maintenance of existing assets and design, specifying and engineering of new capital and brownfield projects.

The role will serve to conceptualize and front‑end engineer design, which once validated is provided to external detailed design engineering and installation contractors, interconnecting utilities, permitting authorities, clients, and building owners on capital projects. The position will also be the liaison with other technical centers of excellence within the global ENGIE organization and manage these relationships and engagements.

You will:
  • Develop conceptual designs for power, heating, and cooling including major equipment selection and budgetary capital cost estimates.
  • Develop specifications for materials/equipment procurement.
  • Review Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) equipment configuration to meet technical requirements and achieve lowest levelized energy cost.
  • Provide technical input during Request For Proposals and evaluate OEMs, engineering and construction companies.
  • Be responsible for scoping, contracting and managing consultants and contractors, when necessary.
  • Perform process and performance assessment (i.e. equipment and pipe sizing) of district heating and cooling systems, from production (Combined Heat and Power (CHP), boiler and chiller plants), through distribution to energy transfer stations (ETS) at local end-users.
  • Assure detailed design and engineering developed by contractors.
  • Deliver required technical support as related to permitting.
  • Review / develop procedures and witness Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) for major equipment.
  • Participate in HAZID/HAZOP and design reviews.
  • Deliver responses to Request for Information (RFI) from field collaborate with project management to prioritize RFIs.
  • Release engineering documentation as needed including field change modifications.
  • Provide engineering support and planning for utility outages during construction and maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate to resolve issues during construction, commissioning and startup phases.
  • Deliver energy system reliability, integrity and operations excellence on existing assets.
  • Conduct technical reviews with internal and external stakeholders as requested.
  • Optimize system configurations for design and operations, accounting for various production configurations, while ensuring network requirements and key performance indicators (KPIs) are met.
  • Develop thermal and hydraulic models of combined heat and power /cogeneration, district energy system assets
    - Model and estimate energy use profiles by energy type, building type, location and seasonal climates.
  • Analyze thermal and electric loads for customers based on historical data, future load projections and potential energy conservation measures.
  • Assist to develop root cause analyses for any operational issues.
  • Liaise with the members of the Engineering and Shared Services teams utilizing in-house experience and knowledge.
What You'll Bring
  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical or a related engineering or discipline.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of working experience in design/engineering of Power plants and components and district energy systems.
  • PE license is a plus, but not required.
  • Knowledge and experience in thermal engineering with regards to developing and constructing and operating District Energy, Utilities and Combined Heat and Power Systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of gas turbines and gas engine gensets, heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), steam turbines, cooling towers, boilers, chillers, heat pumps, pipe distribution systems (steam, low temperature hot water, high temperature hot water, chilled water, ambient temperature, condensate return) and geo‑exchange.
