What You Can ExpectAt ENGIE, we power communities and advance the energy transition. At the University of Iowa, you'll be part of the team responsible for operating and improving the utility systems that support a major campus every day.
As an Electrical Engineer I, you'll develop expertise in power generation and distribution, chilled water, steam, and water production systems while working alongside experienced engineers and operations teams. You'll gain hands‑on exposure to engineering, construction, commissioning, operations, and system optimization efforts, building a broad foundation in utility infrastructure.
This role offers the opportunity to tackle complex technical challenges, contribute to critical infrastructure projects, collaborate with diverse stakeholders, and grow into a valued technical resource within ENGIE's utility operations.
What You'll Do- Design, support, and troubleshoot electrical systems for power generation, medium-voltage distribution, substations, and related utility infrastructure
- Develop technical specifications and support the procurement, installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of protective relaying and control systems
- Coordinate with electric utilities on transmission interconnections, system operations, and incident investigations
- Perform and evaluate arc flash, short circuit, load flow, and protective relay studies using industry-standard engineering softwar
- Troubleshoot electrical issues across utility assets and customer systems to support safe, reliable operations
- Collaborate with engineers and project teams across multiple disciplines to support project development, design, construction, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Stay current on emerging technologies, safety standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices, while occasionally traveling to support ENGIE sites across North America
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university required
- Minimum 0-2 years experience, with w orking knowledge of power generation, medium-voltage distribution, substations, protective relaying, and utility systems
- Familiarity with electrical design and analysis tools such as AutoCAD, SKM, or similar engineering software
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems, analyze technical issues, and develop practical solutions
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and with external stakeholders
- Self-motivated and detail-oriented, with strong organizational skills and a commitment to safety, ethics, and continuous improvement
- This role requires attendance at a worksiteon a daily basis
- Must be available to travel domestically up to 20% of the time and with the need for some overnight trips
- Must possess a valid U.S. driver's license/clean driving record; to drive company vehicle across campus site locations
- Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
- Abilityto climb ladders, and occasionally work in environments with varying temperatures, noise levels and weather conditions
Salary Range: $63,300 - $96,945 USD annually
This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate. ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.
In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
