Respiratory Care Supervisor - University Campus
Respiratory Care is seeking a full-time supervisor. This position will be responsible for supervising the implementation of respiratory care primarily in the neonatal and pediatric patient populations within the Medical Center University Campus in Iowa City.
Responsibilities include:
- Hire or assist in hiring staff.
- Develop and manage the performance of staff.
- Ensure staff are compliant with policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Provide feedback and supports HR initiatives in a positive manner.
- Directs and monitors activities of senior respiratory therapists in assigned areas of responsibility.
- Provide educational/orientation for respiratory care staff and other healthcare providers.
- Collect and analyze financial and productivity data.
- Utilize data to assist in budget development and preparation, resource allocations and cost containment strategies.
- Manage shift/unit to meet budget goals.
- Provide shift support and scheduling duties with existing shift supervisor.
- Ensure standards of care, regulatory compliance, QA and safety regulations are followed.
- Supervise care delivery: may provide some patient care.
- Consults with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers in the development and implementation of respiratory care.
- Contribute to and lead activities relating to strategic planning and implementation for unit.
- Communicate with physicians, staff, and other units/departments on a regular basis to promote effective and efficient operations within the department.
- Communicate with patients, families, and staff to address and resolve issues.
- Provide evaluative feedback to students, staff, and residents.
- Mentor employees, providing just in time training on topics associated with respiratory care for the designated shift.
- Collaborate with the specialized care coordinator for ongoing departmental competencies.
This position will be actively involved in many multidisciplinary meetings:
- Device integration
- Inpatient clinical documentation
- Ped Medication Use Task Force
- Quality & Safety subcommittees
- Ped disaster and emergency management task force
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Care or health-related science or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
- Possess a current State of Iowa Respiratory Care Practitioner license.
- Considerable (3-5 years) experience in Respiratory Care within a tertiary care setting, including neonatal/pediatric care.
- Registration by the National Board of Respiratory Care and possession and maintenance of active membership in the National Board for Respiratory Care.
- Possess a current CPR certification card. ACLS, PALS, and NRP certifications within 6 months of hire.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desired
Qualifications:
- At least 2-4 years of recent senior/supervisory experience in a large academic teaching hospital.
- Experience in developing/maintaining a staff competency program in an academic teaching hospital.
- Demonstrates proficiency in leadership skills such as mentoring and counseling staff, writing and delivering performance reviews, developing and directing staff meetings.
