Staff Nurse - Adult Psychiatry Unit (7RC) 100% M-F Straight Nights

Sign-on incentive: Candidates are eligible for a sign on incentive of up to $12,500 based on experience

University of Iowa Health Care opened a new psychiatric unit in 2021. This state‑of‑the‑art unit design features private rooms, natural light‑filled spaces, open nurses’ station, and exercise rooms. Innovative technology has been integrated into this space to promote a safe environment for staff members and patients.

RCP is separated into a 12‑bed mood disorder unit and a 13‑bed general adult psychiatry unit. We utilize an evidence‑based, patient‑centered, interdisciplinary approach, with contributions from physicians, psychologists, advanced practice providers, master‑level therapists, nurses, social workers, dieticians, occupational and recreational therapists, all striving to work collaboratively with patients and families to provide the best possible care. 7

RCP features a new and collaborative position, Behavioral Health Consultant, with a goal to elevate the patient and team outcomes. Evidence‑based therapeutic modalities utilized on the unit include dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, and trauma‑informed care.

Salary: $60,589 to commensurate (not including inpatient or shift differential)

Pay Differentials: Shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts. Premium pay for additional shifts greater than 4 hours. Inpatient differential of $10,000 per year

Education Required
  • An Associate’s Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required.
Experience Requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions.
  • General computer skills are required.
  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Masters Degree in Nursing is highly desired.
  • If Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable.
  • Knowledge of university and hospital policies and procedures is desired.
