The University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a 70% and 100% Medical Assistant II to work in our Occupational Health Clinics. Our Occupational Health Medical Assistants play a vital role in supporting the well‑being of University of Iowa Health Care employees and campus partners. In this position, you will work directly with a population of faculty, staff, and students, helping ensure that workplace health standards are met, preventive services are delivered, and individuals receive appropriate follow‑up care.

Duties To Include- Staff will support our Urgent Care Clinics and will float to multiple locations based on staffing need.
- Performs phlebotomy.
- Duties may involve the use of electronic word/data processing equipment and/or conventional office equipment.
- Performs routine laboratory testing (urinalysis, blood tests, etc.) on clinical biological specimens such as blood and body fluids. Uses the Laboratory Information System to accession specimens. Performs, or may direct performance of, data entry, labeling and processing of laboratory specimens.
- Prepares specimens for transport to maintain specimen viability.
- Records results of laboratory testing and reports results in the Laboratory Information System and to clinicians in compliance with regulatory requirements and standard operating procedures.
- Operates, calibrates, and maintains laboratory equipment and instruments.
- Performs records and reviews daily quality control as required for assigned testing/instrumentation.
- Cleans and maintains a medium‑sized laboratory area and equipment therein, makes inventory reports and performs simple maintenance on laboratory equipment.
- Seeks assistance from the Laboratory Technical Consultant when complex equipment or technical issues arise. Informs the Laboratory Technical Consultant of significant laboratory variances.
- Responds to, or may direct response to, telephone inquiries regarding laboratory specimens. Investigates and resolves laboratory questions with minimum guidance.
- Responsible for facilitating the smooth flow of patients through the clinic through interaction with patients, families, and staff.
- Assist in clinic with physical examination of patient and related treatments, including but not limited to patient history, medication records, allergies, and immunizations.
- Administers routine oral, rectal, or injectable medications not requiring a high level of skill or nursing judgment. These are medications that can only be administered by certified medical assistants or medical assistants who have completed a formal accredited training program.
- Other duties as assigned.
