This position performs a wide variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor around our hot mix asphalt plant in Iowa City. This is a seasonal position that typically starts in March and ends in November when laid off.

Work Environment:
This position is exposed to all types of outside weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, dust, and fumes. Laborers work around moving conveyor belts, oversized front-end loaders, and dump trucks. The noise level is usually very loud. Personal protective equipment is provided.

Schedule:
Based on production needs, this position may work days (Monday to Friday) or overnight (Sunday night to Friday morning). Weekly overtime of 50+ hours is common.

Duties:

• Assist in the operation and maintenance of the asphalt plant.
• General laboring such as shoveling, cleaning, and greasing.
• Perform duties as required by the plant supervisor.

Required:

• Above average mechanical skills
• Able to use hand and power tools
• Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen
• Able to stand, crouch, and walk for long periods of time (10+ hours)
• Able to climb up and down heights of 100+ feet
• Regularly lift, push, pull, and/or carry up to 50 pounds
• Available to work days and nights, including overtime
