Assistant Nurse Manager - University Employee Health Clinic
The University of Iowa Health Care is seeking an Administrator Assistant Nurse Manager to work at the Employee Health Clinic. This position will lead and manage direct care nursing functions of an inpatient unit or ambulatory clinic to assure that health services, medical care, medical/health professions education, and evidence-based practice research programs are delivered effectively and efficiently. Positions in this job family usually have limited involvement in direct patient care and focus their efforts on planning, organizing, directing, evaluating, and improving health care operations, clinical education programs, and research programs of clinical departments.
Duties- Human Resource Management
- Hire or assist in hiring nursing unit staff.
- Develop and manage performance of staff as directed; may complete performance appraisals.
- Ensure staff compliance with competencies, policies, procedures, and regulations; understand and apply union contract provisions.
- Active management of operating expenses
- Review financial reports with nurse leaders and provide insights to budget variances.
- Recommend budget ideas, resources, and cost containment strategies.
- Operations, Standards of Care, Regulatory Compliance, Quality and Patient Satisfaction
- Collaborate with nurse leaders to identify quality management and patient satisfaction opportunities.
- Implement and maintain standards and quality plans.
- Engage staff in meeting plan goals.
- Supervise care delivery and coordinate patient care teams on the unit; serve as a resource for patient care problems; may provide some patient care.
- Planning & Goal Management
- Collaborate with nursing leaders to develop and implement unit / clinic or division strategic plans.
- Communicate with physicians, staff, and other providers to promote effective and efficient operations.
- Communicate with patients, families, and staff to address and resolve issues.
- Education Programs
- Provide evaluative feedback to staff members and health care students.
- Work with clinical instructors/educators to facilitate clinical education experiences.
- Required Qualifications
- Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire.
- At least three (3) years of comprehensive progressive healthcare leadership/administrative experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and high emotional intelligence.
- Demonstrated experience fostering a welcoming and respectful work/academic environment for people from all backgrounds.
- Desired Qualifications
- Previous experience in an academic medical center.
- Previous experience in administration and management of clinical settings.
- Demonstrated results in improving patient satisfaction.
- Demonstrated results in improving clinical operations.
Schedule:
Monday – Friday 7:00 am – 3:30 pm or 8:30 am – 5:00 pm (with half‑hour lunch). For on‑call management support outside of regular hours during weekends, holidays or operational needs. Compensation to be determined based on qualifications and experience.
