PositionUniversity of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking a 100% Staff Nurse to work at the Adult Psychiatry Clinic with the Partial Hospitalization Program-Mood Track.
Summary- Assess patients' nursing care needs, evaluate effectiveness of care provided, and integrate nursing theory and research into clinical practice.
- Provide leadership to members of the nursing team in order to maintain patient care standards.
- Apply nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness.
- Assess patient health care preferences and expectations.
- Triage new patient referrals and communicate with referring provider/team.
- Collaboratively coordinate the continuum of care across settings.
- Develop patient care plan based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes.
- Implement patient care plan according to patient priorities, which includes interventions identified through nursing diagnoses. Document/report interventions and patient/family response.
- Collaborate and integrate contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan.
- Plan and facilitate nursing-led groups.
- Develop, coordinate and implement transfer/discharge planning throughout episode of care.
- Implement nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain safe environment for patients, visitors and staff.
- Follow universal precautions.
- Percent of Time: 100% (40 hours per week)
- Salary: $61,183 per year to commensurate.
- Schedule:
Monday–Friday, 40 hours/week between 07:30 and 16:30. No weekends, no holiday, no call. - Location:

- Associate’s Degree in Nursing, Diploma in Nursing, Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members.
- General computer skills.
- Current license to practice nursing in Iowa.
- Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Masters Degree in Nursing is highly desired.
- Active enrollment in a BSN program if Baccalaureate degree not yet obtained.
- Tolerance for unpredictability.
- Interest in creative problem solving for unique clinical care challenges.
- Experience working with patients with psychiatric conditions.
- Ability to complete tasks autonomously and problem solve independently.
- Experience in inpatient psychiatric setting.
- Successful candidates must self-disclose any conviction history and be subject to a criminal background check and credential/education verification.
