Staff Nurse
- Nursing Float Pool
- Adult Acute Care Tier 3 Day Shifts

University of Iowa Health Care is seeking skilled staff nurses for their Nursing Float Pool (Tier
3) - also known as the Enterprise Staffing Pool - for Adult Acute Care Services.

These staff nurses will circulate several services to cover acute care units at University of Iowa Health Care University Campus, UI Health Care Downtown Campus, and UI Health Care North Liberty Campus.

Key Areas of Responsibility
  • Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness
  • Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations
  • Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings
  • Develops patient care plan based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes
  • Implements patient care plan according to patient priorities, which includes interventions identified through nursing diagnoses; documents/reports interventions and patient/family response
  • Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan
  • Develops, coordinates and implements transfer/discharge planning throughout episode of care
  • Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain safe environment for patients, visitors and staff; follows universal precautions
  • Prescheduled assignments (to cover planned vacancies, FMLAs)
  • Anticipated 4-week schedule per assignment (with ability to cover just-in-time assignments as needed)
  • Float within specialty between MCU & MCD campuses
  • Weekend and holiday work requirements are subject to adjustment based on manager discretion and operational needs of assigned units

50% - 90% (20-36 hours per week)

SEIU Pay Plan

PD20 (Tier 3 Staff Nurses receive an additional $15/hr. on all hours worked)

Education Requirements
  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing, Diploma in Nursing, Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA)
Required Qualifications
  • 2 or more years of current experience with Adult Acute Care
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members
  • General computer skills, including proficiency in managing multiple databases including Microsoft Excel
  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa required by date of hire
Desired Qualifications
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing is highly desired
  • Active enrollment in a BSN program if a Baccalaureate Degree has not yet been obtained
  • Current or prior agency experience preferred
  • A minimum of 2 years of inpatient nursing experience, preferably within the last 5 years, is highly desired
