Position Overview

University of Iowa Health Care opened a new psychiatric unit in 2021. This state‑of‑the‑art unit features private rooms, natural light‑filled spaces, an open nurses’ station, and exercise rooms. Innovative technology has been integrated to promote a safe environment for staff and patients. The 7

RCP unit is divided into a 12‑bed mood disorder unit and a 13‑bed general adult psychiatry unit. It utilizes an evidence‑based, patient‑centered, interdisciplinary approach with contributions from physicians, psychologists, advanced practice providers, master‑level therapists, nurses, social workers, dietitians, occupational and recreational therapists, all working collaboratively to provide the best possible care. The new Behavioral Health Consultant role aims to elevate patient and team outcomes by delivering evidence‑based therapeutic modalities including dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, and trauma‑informed care.

Sign‑on incentive: up to $12,500 based on experience.

Salary: $60,589 to commensurate (not including inpatient or shift differential).

Shift differentials: evening, night, and weekend shifts; premium pay for additional shifts over 4 hours; inpatient differential of $10,000 per year.

Schedule:

40 hours per week, Monday‑Friday nights 2300‑0730.

Location:

Roy Carver Pavilion (University Campus).

Rotations:
Every other weekend and rotating holidays.

• An Associate’s Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
• Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions.
• General computer skills are required.
• Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire.
• Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Masters Degree in Nursing is highly desired.
• If Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable.
• Knowledge of university and hospital policies and procedures is desired.

Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to provide evidence‑based therapeutic modalities, including dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, and trauma‑informed care. Work to elevate patient and team outcomes through clinical leadership, coordination of care, and adherence to unit protocols and policies. Communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff to support holistic patient care.
