UI Heart and Vascular Center is seeking a 100% Nurse Clinician to support our Electrophysiology Team. Nurse Clinicians in this program develop into advanced care coordinators for patients seen by our EP providers, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to evaluate and treat patients diagnosed with arrhythmias. They provide direct patient care, manage symptoms, give education, coordinate care, and participate in quality initiatives.

Position

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for patient care in the clinic setting including assessment of vital signs, ensuring current medications and allergies are charted, and management of wound dressings.
  • Provide in depth pre‑op education and post‑op follow up to patients undergoing procedures.
  • Perform triage of patient calls to manage symptoms appropriately and facilitate medication refills as needed.
  • Collaborate with HVC Device Nurse Specialists to monitor and manage patient arrhythmias remotely.
  • Implement nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Independently coordinate and facilitate patient care between multiple disciplines within UI Health Care and the local communities (including home health agencies, referring physicians and other community support services).
  • Autonomously communicate with referring physicians and health care facilities in a timely manner.
  • Provide cross‑coverage to other HVC Nurse Clinicians as needed.
  • Design, implement and revise patient/family health education activities for patients.
  • Assess learning needs of patients and families and provide appropriate education related to diagnosis, procedures, risk‑factor modification, and treatment regimens.
  • Facilitate learning and provide consultation to those in other areas of cardiology, UI Health Care, external agencies, communities, and other health care professionals.
  • Facilitate educational experiences for health care students and monitor the care delivered.
  • Serve as clinical pre‑ceptor to new nursing staff as directed by the Nursing Manager, Assistant Nurse Manager or designee.
  • Participate in decision‑making processes at the unit and department level to manage issues that impact clinical practice.
  • Develop and provide leadership for patient care programs within electrophysiology, collaborating with other health care professionals and specialties.
  • Participate in the ongoing implementation of current regulatory standards required to meet state and national agency accreditation.
  • Use relevant nursing research to improve clinical practice and investigate nursing care problems related to the unit and department.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of division/unit quality assessment and improvement programs.
  • Assist with the conduct of research activities within the area of specialty.
  • Assume responsibility for maintaining clinical expertise consistent with patient population requirements and current nursing and medical practice.
  • Interact with staff, patients, medical staff, peers, and others in a professional and cooperative manner.
  • Support a work environment that fosters teamwork and is conducive to the recruitment and retention of staff.
  • Remain calm and constructive in conflict situations, listening and attempting to understand other points of view.
  • Analyze own performance in accordance with position expectations, develop goals, and implement a plan to meet those goals.
  • Follow general policies and procedures in accordance with the regulations of the University of Iowa, UI Health Care, the HVC, and the Department of Nursing.
Education Requirement
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing is required.
Experience Requirement
  • Minimum 6 months of direct nursing care or management/supervision of cardiovascular medical/surgical patients, OR minimum 1 year of direct nursing care/care coordination within an outpatient setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to professionally interact with patients, families, nursing staff and other multidisciplinary team members.
