The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking Staff Nurses to join the Main Operating Room, for the General Surgery/Vascular Team
6. These nurses will assist the nursing team in providing patient care under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager.
- Apply nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness.
- Assess patient health care preferences and expectations.
- Collaboratively coordinate the continuum of care across settings.
- Develop a patient care plan based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes.
- Implement the patient care plan according to patient priorities, including interventions identified through nursing diagnoses, documents/reports, interventions, and patient/family response.
- Collaborate and integrate contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan.
- Develop, coordinate and implement transfer/discharge planning throughout episode of care.
- Implement nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff.
- Follow universal precautions.
Sunday-Thursday 8, 10 or 12-hr shifts, weekend call, occasional holidays. Percent of Time: 100%.
LocationUniversity Main Campus, University of Iowa Health Care.
CompensationBase salary: $61,183 (at 100% effort) to commensurate. Shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts. Inpatient differentials up to $10,000 per year. OR Premium Pay:
Up to $10,000 at 100% effort.

Required Qualifications- An Associate’s Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Master of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP) MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader, or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members.
- General computer skills.
- Current license to practice nursing in Iowa by date of hire.
- Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Masters Degree in Nursing.
- Active enrollment in a BSN program if Baccalaureate degree in Nursing not yet obtained.
- Knowledge of university policies and procedures.
