Staff Nurse - Acute Internal Medicine Unit (4/5 South)
The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking a Staff Nurse (RN) for the Adult Acute Internal Medicine Unit (4/5 South). The Adult Acute Internal Medicine Units are both 13-bed general medicine inpatient units that serve a variety of patients. The unit is designed to provide high quality, personalized care for patients. We are pleased that we are able to provide our patients with private rooms, granting them the quite atmosphere to rest and heal.
We treat diseases and disorders from the following body systems, including but not limited to: circulatory, dermatology, endocrine, immune, gastrointestinal, neurological, pulmonary, and renal. We use a multidisciplinary approach to patient care that is patient centered and encourages teamwork between nursing staff, physicians, therapy teams, social work, care coordination, and pharmacists. Characteristic duties of our staff nurses include but are not limited to: applying nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness;
assessing patient health care preferences and expectations; collaboratively coordinating the continuum of care across settings; developing patient care plans based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions that prescribe interventions to attain expected outcomes; implementing patient care plans according to patient priorities, which includes interventions identified through nursing diagnoses; documenting/reporting interventions and patient/family response; collaborating and integrating contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan;
developing, coordinating, and implementing transfer/discharge planning throughout episode of care; implementing nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff; and following universal precautions. Percent of time: 60% - 90%, 24 - 36 hours per week.
Schedule:
day shifts, will include occasional weekend rotation and holiday rotations as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education required:
an associate's degree in nursing, a diploma in nursing, a baccalaureate degree in nursing, professional masters of nursing and healthcare practice (MNHP), MSN/clinical nurse leader, or a master's degree in nursing (MSN, MA). Experience required: excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions.
General computer skills are required, including proficiency in managing multiple databases including Microsoft Excel. Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire. Desirable qualifications: baccalaureate degree in nursing is highly desired. If baccalaureate degree in nursing is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable.
