Emergency Medicine Staff Nurse (University Campus) - 50% - 100%

Emergency Department | University Campus:
The Emergency Department (ED) at the University Campus (200 Hawkins Dr.) is a 57‑bed department with the following spaces:
- Pediatric ED space with 13 rooms, including 2 dedicated trauma/resuscitation rooms and a procedural room.
- Main ED space includes 3 trauma/resuscitation rooms, an expanded Team Triage space, and 6 results waiting chairs.
- South Expansion space includes 12 enhanced multipurpose rooms and a calming room.
Characteristic Duties of our Staff Nurses include but are not limited to:
- Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness.
- Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations.
- Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings.
- Develops patient care plan based on patient condition, age, and psychosocial and socioeconomic factors to prescribe interventions to attain expected outcomes.
- Implements patient care plan according to patient priorities, including interventions identified through nursing diagnoses, and documents reports.
- Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan.
- Develops, coordinates and implements transfer/discharge planning throughout the episode of care.
- Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff; follows universal precautions.
Percent of Time: 50 – 100%
Schedule example: 50–100% positions available, 20–40 hours per week dependent on percentage of position. Rotating D/E/N shifts and rotating days off. 8/12 hour shifts available. Weekend and holiday rotating assignments required. Orientation duration may vary.
Location: Regular salaried position at the University Campus ED in Iowa City, Iowa.
Pay: Minimum $60,000 at 100% effort; salary varies based on experience and percent of effort. Shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts. Premium pay for additional shifts >4 hours. Inpatient differential up to $10,000 per year.

Education Required:
- Associate’s Degree in Nursing, Diploma in Nursing, Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Master’s of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader, or Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA).
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
- License to practice nursing in the state of Iowa required by date of hire.
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of six months RN inpatient hospital nursing experience or completion of senior internship/preceptorship or at least 100 clinical hours on med/surg or step‑down unit.
- Proven capacity to function with a high degree of autonomy while actively collaborating within a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Successful history in building/facilitating interpersonal relationships involving patients, families, colleagues, and student-learners.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
- General proficiency with computers.
Desired
Qualifications:
- Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Master’s Degree in Nursing highly desired.
- If Baccalaureate degree not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program desired.
- Experience in telemetry and/or neurology desired.
- Knowledge of university policies and procedures desired.
