Job Overview
The Iowa River Landing Clinic is seeking a 100% Assistant Nurse Manager to manage direct‑care nursing functions, ensuring that health services, medical care, and evidence‑based practice research programs are delivered effectively and efficiently. Direct patient care responsibilities will be performed while planning, organizing, directing, evaluating, and improving health‑care operations and clinical education programs.
Primary Responsibilities- Human Resources Management
- Assist in hiring nursing unit staff through timely recommendations.
- Develop and manage staff talents, strengths, and behaviors; assist in promotion, transfer, and disciplinary actions.
- Coach staff in decision‑making and customer service improvement activities.
- Provide incentives and rewards for service excellence.
- Complete staff evaluations on time with written justification.
- Ensure staff compliance with competencies, policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Understand and apply union contract provisions.
- Promote effective recruitment and retention of qualified staff.
- Operations, Standards of Care, Regulatory Compliance, Quality, and Patient Satisfaction
- Collaborate with Nursing Management to identify quality improvement opportunities.
- Implement Service Excellence principles for positive patient/customer relations.
- Maintain standards and quality plans; identify inefficiencies and develop improvements.
- Make sound judgments based on factual information.
- Supervise care delivery and coordinate patient care teams.
- Assist in flexible staffing and priority reallocation for optimal patient care.
- Provide resources for patient care problem resolution; may provide limited patient care.
- Develop effective relationships with nursing staff, medical staff, interdisciplinary teams, and other departments.
- Planning and Goal Management
- Collaborate on strategic plans for the unit/clinic or division.
- Use customer feedback in planning and service provision.
- Communication, Collaboration, and Relationships
- Regularly communicate with physicians, staff, and other health‑care providers to promote efficient operations.
- Communicate with patients, families, and staff to address and resolve issues.
- Utilize HR data and budgetary information to formulate recommendations to the Nurse Manager and Director of Clinical Services.
- Education Programs
- Provide evaluative feedback to staff and health‑care students.
- Coach staff in standards of care, professional development, and specialty certifications; enforce regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with clinical instructors to facilitate education experiences.
- Engage in continuous learning and skill enhancement.
- Research Administration
- Support evidence‑based practice research initiatives.
- Facilitate incorporation of quality management and evidence‑based practices in nursing care.
- Support changes in nursing care guided by evidence‑based practice.
- 100% time commitment; 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday 8:00 AM–5:00 PM;
Saturday rotation 7:00 AM–12:00 PM;
Saturdays and Sundays off. - Regular salaried position located in Iowa City, Iowa.

- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or related field required.
- Current license to practice nursing in the State of Iowa required by date of hire.
- 1+ years of nursing experience with demonstrated leadership skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with computer software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office).
- Strong time‑management, organization of workload, delegation, attention to detail, and thoroughness.
- Effective interpersonal relationships with nursing staff, medical staff, interdisciplinary teams, and other hospital departments.
- Teaching skills for staff and patient education.
- Knowledge of working with diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
- Experience in a large academic medical center.
- Experience working in a union environment.
