About the Position
University of Iowa Health Care’s Main Operating Room, Teams 2&3 offer cutting‑edge procedures tailored to patients, including brain, neurointerventional, skull base, spine, orthopedic trauma surgeries, and device implantation. The spine surgery team blends neurosurgeons and orthopedic surgeons and excels at treating back pain and spinal conditions, mastering both routine and complex surgeries.
FacilitiesThe Main Operating Rooms feature 30 operating rooms dedicated to adult surgical specialties, open 24/7, and organized into 5 teams staffed by RNs and surgical technologists.
Responsibilities- Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness.
- Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations.
- Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings.
- Develops a patient care plan based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes.
- Implements the patient care plan according to patient priorities, which includes interventions identified through nursing diagnoses, documents/reports, interventions and patient/family response.
- Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan.
- Develops, coordinates and implements transfer/discharge planning throughout the episode of care.
- Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff.
- Follows universal precautions.

Salary: $61,183 (at 100% effort) to commensurate. Shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts and inpatient differentials up to $10,000 per year. OR Premium Pay up to $10,000 at 100% effort. Sign‑on incentive up to $12,500. Education Required- An Associate’s Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, a Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members.
- General computer skills.
- Current license to practice nursing in Iowa required by date of hire.
- Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Masters Degree in Nursing highly desired.
- If Baccalaureate degree not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program desirable.
