Staff Nurse – Stead Family Children’s Hospital Pediatric Specialty Clinic – Endocrinology (80%)

The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking a Staff Nurse to assist members of the Nursing team in providing patient care under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager in both clinical and office settings.

The Endocrinology RN will collaborate closely with physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, and nursing staff. The role focuses on endocrine patients and is not part of the diabetes nursing team.

In the office, responsibilities will include triaging calls, coordinating patient care, managing MyChart messages, prescription refills, clinic preparation, and necessary documentation. In the clinic, the RN will provide patient education and ensure endocrine testing is complete.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Phone triage and MyChart triage for medical questions as backup for the clinical coordinator:
    • Respond to inquiries from physician offices, patients, families; integrate information and respond if within RN scope, or forward to residents for escalation.
  • Clinic preparation:
    • Ensure appropriate testing (labs, imaging) is obtained before each clinic and that appointments are scheduled on time.
    • Manage referrals and determine appropriate testing based on algorithm or provider communication.
  • Be present in clinic to assist with order entry, education, and teaching.

Percent of Time: 80% (32 hours/week)

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 08:30 – 17:00

Location: John Pappajohn Pavilion (JPP)

Rotations: No holidays, no weekends, no call

Salary: $60,000 minimum at 100% effort; varies with experience and effort level.

Education Required:

  • An Associate’s Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader, or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA)

Experience

Required:

  • Minimum 1 year of nursing experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with patients, families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members
  • General computer skills
  • Ability to communicate complicated information to children and their parents
  • Proven ability to problem‑solve
  • Proven ability to integrate into a team
  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa required by date of hire

Desired

Qualifications:

  • 1 year of Pediatric Nursing experience
  • Ambulatory Nursing experience
