Nurse Clinician - Medicine Specialty Clinic (60% - 100%)

University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking a 60%-100% Nurse Clinician to work for the Medicine Specialty Clinic.

Summary

Functions as a clinical expert and care coordinator for a specific patient population interfacing with administrative and clinical staff, physicians, and patients/families.

Position Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with nursing, medical staff and other health professionals in the development and review of standards and in planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care for a specific patient population with regard to condition and age.
  • Provides direct nursing care when necessary and follows universal precautions.
  • Coordinates patient care across multiple disciplines within UI Health Care and the local community, including home health agencies, referring physicians, and community support services.
  • Facilitates continuity of care and utilizes supportive services during patient visits or possible admission, pre-schedules testing, follows up with test results for patients and physicians, obtains medical history, coordinates follow-up visits, provides medication, rehabilitation teaching, etc.
  • Participates in ongoing patient management to facilitate discharge in a timely manner.
  • Interacts with staff, patients, medical staff, peers, and others in a professional and cooperative manner.
  • Maintains clinical expertise consistent with patient population requirements and current nursing and medical practice.
  • Develops management and consultant skills consistent with position responsibilities.
  • Adheres to professional and legal standards of nursing practice.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient and staff information.
  • Promotes a positive work environment.
  • Demonstrates core values of service leadership: respect, communication, accountability, integrity, and compassion.
  • Remains calm and constructive in conflict situations, listening and attempting to understand other points of view.
  • Analyzes performance in accordance with position expectations, develops goals, and implements a plan to meet goals.
  • Is self-directed in using time.
Percent of Time and Schedule

60% - 100% (24-40 hours per week). Variable days, Monday-Friday. No weekend coverage, holiday coverage, or call.

Salary and Benefits

Minimum salary of $64,242 at 100% effort, commensurate with experience and percent effort. The role offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package, including paid vacation, sick leave, health, dental, life and disability insurance options, and generous employer contributions into retirement plans.

Required Qualifications
  • A Baccalaureate degree in Nursing.
  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa by date of hire.
  • Reasonable nursing experience within the last 1–3 years.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Expertise in a specific clinical area of practice.
  • Excellent organizational skills, critical thinking, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Expertise with adult patient/family discharge planning process.
  • Experience working with an interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to work well in a team.
