Position: Clinical Coordinator - Pediatric Specialty Clinic (Neuromuscular)

100% Clinical Coordinator – The University of Iowa healthcare Department of Nursing is seeking a Clinical Coordinator for the Pediatric Specialty Clinic, Neuromuscular team and Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy (LGMD) Center of Excellence.

This role provides nursing leadership and oversight for specialized patient care populations served within the Pediatric Specialty Clinic, Stead Family Children’s Hospital, and outreach clinic locations. The Clinical Coordinator will use nursing expertise to optimize care through quality management, informatics design, and active participation in decision‑making. The Coordinator facilitates communication between medical staff, management, patients and families to deliver excellent care.

The role serves as the clinical nurse expert to independently coordinate and facilitate the treatment plan for pediatric and adult neuromuscular patients in the multi‑disciplinary neuromuscular clinic, including patients receiving gene therapy or other high‑cost disease‑modifying medications. The position also provides dissemination of information and education to the clinical care team.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with nursing, medical staff, and other health professionals in developing and reviewing standards, and in planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care for the pediatric urology patient population regarding condition and age of the patient.
  • Independent coordination and facilitation of patient care between multiple disciplines within UI Health Care and the community (home health agencies, referring physicians, and other community support services).
  • Coordinate patient care to better utilize supportive services through patient visits and possible admissions, pre‑scheduled testing, follow‑up of test results for patient and physician, obtaining medical history, coordinating follow‑up visit appointments, providing medication, rehab teaching, etc.
  • Facilitate care of pediatric urology patients requiring admission, coordinating necessary admission procedures, and pre‑ and post‑procedure care.
  • Operate autonomously in communicating with members of the health care team to direct patient care and provide continuity of care across settings throughout the phases of care.
  • Collaborate in developing communication strategies to promote the TSC, Neurocritical Care, and Neuromuscular programs.
  • Design and implement patient/family health education activities for the pediatric neurology patient population recognizing individualized needs.
  • Collaborate with nursing, medical staff, and other health professionals in planning, delivering, and evaluating care for specialty patient populations.
  • Provide direct patient triage responsibilities as needed throughout the PSC.
  • Perform clinical duties, special projects, and other tasks as needed.

Monday-Friday, 8 hour shifts between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm. No holidays, no weekends.

Requirements
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing is required.
  • Current License to practice Nursing.
  • Minimum 1 year of recent nursing experience.
  • Experience collaborating with an interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating care along the healthcare continuum.
  • Demonstrated experience in patient education.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrates leadership and training skills.
  • Proficient in computer skills (word, excel, power point, access).
Desired Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA), or Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP) is encouraged.
  • Pediatric nursing experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in pediatric neurology and neuromuscular medicine.
  • Professional nursing certification.
  • Familiarity with UI Health Care and ambulatory clinic workflows.
