Overview

University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking a Staff Nurse to perform specific tasks to assist members of the Nursing team in providing patient care under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness.
  • Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations.
  • Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings.
  • Develops patient care plan based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions, prescribing interventions to attain expected outcomes.
  • Implements patient care plan according to patient priorities, documenting interventions and patient/family response.
  • Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan.
  • Develops, coordinates and implements transfer/discharge planning throughout episode of care.
  • Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Follows universal precautions.

Child And Adolescent Psychiatry Unit

John Pappajohn Pavillion (1 JPW) is a 15‑bed inpatient unit dedicated to child and adolescent (3‑17 years old) psychiatry services. The unit’s patient population includes depression, anxiety, eating disorder, intellectual disability, substance abuse, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. It provides structured therapy, including Dialectal Behavioral Therapy, and features a Circle School, playground, and gym to improve patient experience and outcomes.

Job Details

Percent of Time: 90% (36 hours per week)

Schedule: Nights 1900‑0730, every other weekend, every other holiday

Location: University Campus

SEIU Pay Plan: (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).-plan

Pay Differentials: Shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts; premium pay for additional shifts greater than 4 hours; inpatient differential of $10,000 per year, prorated by FTE.

Education Required
  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing, Diploma in Nursing, Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Master of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader, or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA).
Experience Requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • General computer skills.
  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa, required by date of hire.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Master’s Degree in Nursing.
  • Active enrollment in a BSN program (if Baccalaureate degree not yet obtained).
  • Previous RN experience in a psychiatric hospital unit.
