Staff Nurse -Neurosurgery Clinic 50% -100

Position Summary

UI Health Care Department of Nursing seeks a 100% Staff Nurse to work in the Neurosurgery Clinic. Sign‑on incentive: up to $10,000.

• Assess patients’ nursing care needs, evaluate effectiveness of care, and integrate nursing theory and research into practice.
• Apply nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness.
• Assess patient health‑care preferences and expectations.
• Collaboratively coordinate the continuum of care across settings.
• Develop patient‑care plans based on the patient’s condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic factors to achieve expected outcomes.
• Implement patient‑care plans according to priority, documenting interventions and patient/family responses.
• Collaborate with patients and families to integrate their contributions into multidisciplinary care plans.
• Coordinate and implement transfer/discharge planning throughout the episode of care.
• Implement nursing interventions in accordance with department, division, and unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Follow universal precautions.

100% (40 hours/week)

$61,183 minimum at 100% effort. Salary commensurate with experience.

Monday‑Friday, 8‑hour shifts within 7:30‑5:00 pm. No nights, weekends, holidays, or on‑call.

• Associate’s Degree in Nursing, Diploma in Nursing, Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA, MNHP) is required.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with patients, families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members.
• General computer skills.
• Current license to practice nursing in Iowa, required by date of hire.

• Baccalaureate or Master’s Degree in Nursing is highly desired.
• Active enrollment in a BSN program if the Baccalaureate degree is not yet obtained.
• Minimum one year of inpatient nursing experience.
• Ambulatory nursing experience.
• Nursing certification.
