The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking a Staff Nurse to perform specific tasks to assist members of the Nursing team in providing patient care under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager.
Duties- Phone triage and mychart triage for medical questions — back up to clinical coordinator
- Respond to inquiries from physician offices, patients, and patient family members; integrate information and respond if answers are within the scope of RN clinical practice, or forward to residents for appropriate escalation of care.
- Clinic Prep
- Ensure appropriate testing (labs, imaging) is obtained before each clinic and manage appropriate timelines for appointments (time‑sensitive vs. first available).
- Manage referrals and determine appropriate testing based on algorithm or communication with provider.
- Conduct postoperative check‑in phone calls.
- Be present in clinic for assistance with order entry, education, and teaching.
80% (32 hours/week)
ScheduleMonday – Friday, 08:30 – 17:00
LocationJohn Pappajohn Pavilion (JPP)
RotationsNo holidays, no weekends, no call.
Salary$60,000 minimum at 100% effort, commensurate with experience and percent of effort.

- Associate’s Degree in Nursing, Diploma in Nursing, Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader, or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA).
- Minimum 1 year of nursing experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members.
- General computer skills.
- Ability to communicate complicated information to children and their parents.
- Proven ability to problem‑solve and integrate into a team.
- Current license to practice nursing in Iowa required by date of hire.
- 1 year Pediatric Nursing experience.
- Ambulatory Nursing experience.
