Fort Worth, TX – Native Policy Lab Field Researcher (part‑time)

The Native Policy Lab (NPL) at the University of Iowa is hiring multiple temporary, part‑time, hourly, paid field researchers to assist with Project Return. Project Return is an initiative to return Indian boarding school records to survivors who want them. The project is funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation through June 2028. Field researchers will work at National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) field offices in Denver, CO;
Fort Worth, TX;
Kansas City, MO;
Riverside, CA;
San Bruno, CA; or Seattle, WA. Researchers must reside near one of these offices as travel is not reimbursed. They will complete required orientation and training, handle records safely, and support Project Return’s confidentiality protocols.

• Complete the National Archives Researcher Orientation training and Safe Handling of Library and Archival Materials training.
• Correspond with NPL researchers and maintain clear communication.
• Travel locally to the National Archives.
• Fulfill records requests in a timely manner that meets NPL expectations.
• Carefully scan historic Indian boarding school records.
• Adhere to confidentiality requirements.
• Perform other site‑based duties related to Project Return as assigned.

Pay: $20 per hour.

Ongoing, part time, flexible hours.

• No education level or student‑status requirements.
• Must be located near one of the following NARA field offices:
  Denver, CO;
  Fort Worth, TX;
  Kansas City, MO;
  Riverside, CA;
  San Bruno, CA;
  Seattle, WA.

• Knowledge of or experience working within Indian Country.
