The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting operations of the Tarkett North American Accounting Shared Service Organization, ensuring accurate financial reporting and maintaining compliance with internal controls and accounting standards. This role plays a key part in the month‑end close process, account reconciliations, and financial analysis.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assist with completion of month‑end close processes including consolidation and maintenance of closing files, preparation of journal entries, balance‑sheet reconciliations, and support schedules.
- Execute intercompany billing processes and ensure timely and accurate transactions.
- Perform intercompany AP/AR balance reconciliations to support financial reporting accuracy.
- Monitor SAP for intercompany processing errors and coordinate resolution efforts.
- Prepare and post journal entries to the general ledger.
- Maintain and reconcile balance‑sheet accounts.
- Review credit‑card transactions for proper account coding and compliance with internal control policies.
- Analyze financial data and investigate variances.
- Support financial statement preparation and reporting.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and procedures.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (AP, AR, FP&A, IT).
- Assist with audits by providing required documentation and support.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation.
- Prepare ad‑hoc reports and financial analyses as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Accounting Manager.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 1–3+ years of accounting experience (public or corporate).
- Strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP).
- Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar).
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis).
- Experience with reconciliation tools (e.g., Black Line) preferred.
- CPA or CPA candidate is a plus.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Attention to detail, organized, and thorough with desire for continuous improvement.
- Exhibits high level of curiosity to develop understanding of the business.
Typically operates in a professional office or hybrid environment. May require extended hours during close cycles or audits.
