Part-Time Controller - West Omaha Construction Business

Hemphill is partnering with a West Omaha construction business recognized for delivering unique, high-quality, and custom projects across the Omaha metropolitan area for nearly 25 years. This profitable business has seen consistent and steady growth and is eager to welcome a Controller to their team in a part-time capacity.

We are searching for a hands-on professional who will enjoy managing the detailed daily accounting responsibilities while also diving into financial analysis and reporting that delivers valuable insights to leadership. When you step into the office, you'll be met with a well-organized and modern environment led by a polished and committed leadership team that excels at what they do. Each project this company tackles offers a unique and creative challenge, and you'll have a front-row seat as part of a close-knit team that takes pride in quality work and enjoys a strong sense of teamwork and camaraderie along the way.

In this position, you will:

  • Take ownership of accounting functions related to ongoing construction projects, including managing accounts payable and tracking expenses to ensure each job's overhead, labor costs, and profitability are allocated correctly and tracked accurately.
  • Manage progress billing on a monthly basis, ensuring customers are invoiced timely and accurately for incremental expenses and labor as projects advance toward completion.
  • Organize and monitor accounts receivable, ensuring payments are received and correctly applied to the right customer accounts.
  • Own daily financial accounting responsibilities such as balance sheet and bank account reconciliations, while also tracking the company's fixed assets.
  • Produce monthly financial statements and deliver clear, high-level commentary on variances relative to prior periods, including profitability analysis by job and management reports that provide leadership with real-time financial insights.

Our client has done a great job while creating a refreshingly professional yet laid-back culture where individuals are trusted and empowered to do their best work. This role is a blend of responsibility for day-to-day accounting and the opportunity to provide valuable, actionable reporting that impacts business decision-making - all while enjoying flexibility and a reduced workload. Enjoy a fully loaded benefits package, a talented small team of like-minded individuals who have fun working together, a brand-new modern office with your own office, and a convenient location that makes the work-life balance achievable.
