Career Opportunity
The city of Las Vegas is accepting applications for Court Clerk. This position performs a wide variety of specialized clerical duties in support of the Municipal Court, including customer service, data entry, courtroom support, and verifying and providing information and assistance to the public in a courteous and professional manner. Bilingual Skills Desired.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Applicants must fully meet ONE of the requirements below by date of application with no substitutions.
  • Associates Degree, OR
  • Equivalent to graduation from high school and one (1) year of clerical experience in a court or legal system environment, OR
  • Equivalent to graduation from high school and three (3) years of clerical experience involving public contact, customer service, or cashiering.

New hires must obtain applicable level of NCIC/NCJIS certification and/or training within 6 months of the date of appointment and maintain proficiency as needed.

Type of Examination (Written Examination)

A civil service examination will be conducted in accordance with the Civil Service Rules of the city of Las Vegas.

The test for this recruitment will be a multiple-choice written examination covering the following: (1) Interacting with Customers, (2) Reading and Data Comprehension, (3) Reasoning, and (4) Legal Terminology.

The city does not recommend or endorse any specific study guide for this test.

Test Dates: 3/9/26, 3/10/26, 3/12/26, and 3/16/26

Eligible List Placement
You must score 70% or higher on the examination to be placed on the eligible list.

Selection Process
Final candidate selection will include list placement and may include hiring interview. Any individual offered employment will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test, complete background check, and may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform the physical requirements of the job. Some positions may require preliminary background checks.

Distinguishing Characteristics

This is the entry/full journey level class within the Court Clerk series. Employees within this class perform the full range of duties within the assigned division, and may be preceded by a moderate learning period. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.

Supervision Received

Receives supervision from the assigned Court Operations Supervisor and higher level management staff. Receives functional and technical supervision from the assigned Lead Court Clerk where applicable.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides information in a professional and courteous manner to the general public, law enforcement, attorneys, government agencies, court staff and other City employees regarding court procedures and schedules, including basic information regarding other courts and available court programs. Researches and resolves customer issues, and/or directs to another staff member or department that can provide assistance. Assists less experienced staff to respond to the more difficult inquiries.
  • Responds to inquiries in a courteous, respectful, and professional manner; explains procedures and provides information within the area of assignment; resolves complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality regarding cases, credit bureau reports, and criminal justice information received from law enforcement databases.
  • Creates, amends or deletes entries in a variety of logs, databases, and systems. Handles more complex data entry as experience is gained.
  • Coordinates the scheduling of court cases, hearings, proceedings, evaluations, and motions. Maintains court calendars and case records. Monitors and tracks pending court cases.…
