THE OPPORTUNITY
The Director, US Business Development is a senior sales leader accountable for driving revenue growth and establishing a strong, sustainable presence for Scott Steel in the United States market. This role is focused on winning large, complex, high-value projects for pre-engineered and conventional steel buildings across key sectors including data centers, mining, logistics, and aircraft hangars.
This role will play a critical part in expanding the company’s US footprint, leveraging the existing Nevada entity, and laying the foundation for a future US division or branch operation. This is a full-time employee role designed for a proven rainmaker who is motivated by building something meaningful and long-term.
RESPONSIBILITIES Market Expansion & Strategic Sales Leadership- Lead business development efforts across the US market, with a strong focus on the Southeast region.
- Identify, pursue, and secure large, complex steel building projects aligned with the company’s strategic and margin objectives.
- Develop and execute a US market entry and growth strategy in collaboration with executive leadership.
- Establish and grow Scott Steel’s reputation as a trusted partner for high-complexity steel building solutions.
- Leverage an established network to bring active leads, opportunities, and projects to the organization.
- Manage long, sophisticated sales cycles including complex RFPs, tenders, and negotiated design-build opportunities.
- Lead proposal strategy, pricing coordination, and commercial negotiations to successful close.
- Work closely with internal engineering, estimating, and operations teams to ensure solutions are technically sound and executable.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with owners, developers, EPCs, consultants, and key industry stakeholders.
- Navigate state-by-state regulatory, market, and competitive nuances across the US.
- Represent the company professionally in the market, reinforcing credibility, trust, and long-term partnerships.
- Partner closely with the Canadian head office to ensure alignment on strategy, delivery, and risk management.
- Contribute to internal process improvement, sales discipline, and go-to-market refinement as the US business scales.
- Support leadership in evaluating future team hires, market investments, and potential US operational expansion.
- Act as a foundational leader for the US business with the potential to build and lead a dedicated US team over time.
- Provide market intelligence, competitor insights, and customer feedback to inform strategic decision-making.
- 10+ years of experience selling pre-engineered and/or conventional steel buildings within the US market.
- Proven track record of winning and delivering large, complex projects (e.g., data centers, mining, logistics facilities, hangars).
- Deep understanding of US regional market dynamics, with strong preference for Southeast US experience.
- Demonstrated success managing long sales cycles and sophisticated tender and proposal processes.
- Experience competing against or working with major industry players such as Nucor, Butler, Robertson/NCI, Blue Scope/Allied, or similar.
- Comfortable operating in a growth environment with evolving structure and high expectations.
- US-based, with the ability to be “boots on the ground” in target markets as required.
