Director of Construction and Project Management Responsibilities
- Direct, organize, plan, coordinate, and manage the functions and services of the Facilities Management Construction Division.
- Manage all phases of construction projects, from contract negotiation through project close‑out.
- Review and approve construction project change orders and contractor progress payment requests.
- Monitor project budgets, schedules, and quality of workmanship to ensure compliance with project requirements and District guidelines.
- Maintain complete and accurate project documentation, including contracts, change orders, test reports, Board actions, correspondence, and related records.
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders regarding technical interpretations and application of laws, ordinances, and engineering codes.
- Collaborate with Planning staff, design professionals, inspectors, local authorities, and contractors to resolve design and construction issues.
- Verify corrective actions have been implemented and incorporate lessons learned to prevent recurring project issues.
- Ensure all project close‑out requirements are completed and all documentation is received in accordance with District standards, jurisdictional requirements, and project specifications.
- Maintain compliance with Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS) governing Public Works projects.
- Ensure adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, regulations, and codes related to assigned construction projects.
- Direct, organize, plan, coordinate and manage the functions and services of the Capital Projects and Facilities Management Remodel Division, including budget, design, bidding/quoting, in‑house construction and contracted construction.
- Direct, organize, plan, budget, coordinate and manage the space planning, acquisition, and relocation of Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment for all construction projects, lease property projects and remodel projects.
- Develop overall construction program project schedules and work with the Planning Director to implement all projects timely and effectively serve as the liaison to the sites and administration for construction activities.
- Evaluate Division performance, review work methods and procedures, and develop and implement changes in work processes to enhance efficiency.
- Develop labor resource plans for remodel, project management and project inspection services and secure the needed resources through the hiring of personnel or contracted services.
- Direct, oversee, and perform construction project management for all major and minor construction projects, with both in‑house and contracted services.
- Provide advice and conduct investigations as requested by the Washoe County School District Board of Trustees.
- Study plans and specifications for accuracy and completeness in fulfilling project needs and help determine if plans are ready for bidding and construction.
- Manage NRS Prevailing Wage and Federal Davis‑Bacon wage requirements, including monitoring, review, investigation and determinations.
- Provide services including space planning, design, construction estimates, FFE estimates, construction management and relocation supervision.
- Supervise assigned staff, determine work performance standards, conduct performance evaluations, provide direction to staff, conduct employment interviews, and handle disciplinary problems.
- Work with the Regulated Systems Division to monitor construction activity and compliance with regulated systems including lead, asbestos, mold, etc.
- Collaborate with Academics and school sites as needed for construction activities.
- Collaborate with the Information Technology Department to provide infrastructure and network capabilities.
- Collaborate with the Facilities Management Maintenance Department on all construction projects.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering or Construction Management.
- Experience: Five (5) years of professional experience, including staff supervision, primarily working with professional architectural or engineering firms in building construction, or as a senior level project manager for a building construction…
