Railroad & Environmental Project Manager

J Pettiecord Inc. is seeking an experienced, motivated Railroad & Environmental Project Manager to join our team. This position will support the management and execution of railroad, environmental, emergency spill response, remediation, demolition, and related field projects throughout Iowa and surrounding states.

This is a hands-on position for someone who can manage multiple projects, communicate directly with customers, coordinate field crews and equipment, and keep projects moving from initial response through completion.

• Manage multiple railroad, environmental, spill response, remediation, and related projects simultaneously.
• Serve as a primary point of contact for customers, railroad representatives, environmental contacts, subcontractors, and field personnel.
• Coordinate project schedules, manpower, equipment, transportation, materials, and subcontractors.
• Communicate project requirements and expectations to supervisors and field crews.
• Monitor project progress, production, costs, and schedules.
• Identify problems in the field and develop practical solutions to keep projects moving.
• Maintain project documentation, daily reports, work orders, and customer records.
• Assist with project closeout, final quantities, change orders, and invoicing.

• Coordinate railroad cleanup, maintenance, emergency response, vegetation management, excavation, material removal, and remediation projects.
• Work directly with railroad personnel to coordinate access, track outages, flagging, protection requirements, and site logistics.
• Coordinate hi-rail equipment, excavators, vac trucks, rotary dumps, trucks, and other specialized equipment.
• Understand and enforce railroad safety and site requirements.
• Be available to assist with emergency railroad incidents and derailment-related work when needed.

• Assist with emergency spill response and environmental cleanup projects.
• Coordinate crews and equipment for petroleum, chemical, fertilizer, and other material releases.
• Assist with containment, material recovery, excavation, transportation, disposal, and site restoration.
• Coordinate with environmental consultants, customers, regulatory representatives, and disposal facilities.
• Maintain accurate documentation of recovered materials, disposal quantities, transportation, and project activities.
• Help ensure projects are performed safely and in accordance with applicable environmental and regulatory requirements.

• Assist with estimating railroad, environmental, spill response, remediation, demolition, excavation, and related projects.
• Review plans, scopes of work, site conditions, and customer requirements.
• Develop labor, equipment, trucking, disposal, subcontractor, and material costs.
• Assist with preparing proposals, quotes, and change orders.
• Identify additional work opportunities while managing active projects.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with railroad and environmental customers.

• 3+ years of experience in construction, railroad, environmental services, emergency response, remediation, excavation, or a related field preferred.
• Project management or field supervision experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of construction equipment, trucking, excavation, material handling, and field operations.
• Ability to read and understand project scopes, plans, specifications, and work orders.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
• Ability to make decisions and solve problems in fast-paced field environments.
• Comfortable communicating with customers, railroad personnel, subcontractors, regulators, and employees.
