Overview

Position in the Iowa Department of Correction is more than a job—it's a calling. Join our team at the Anamosa State Penitentiary as a Dentist in the Health Services Unit.

• Triage patients, evaluate concerns and perform surgeries that are safe to be done in a correctional setting.
• Advise patients on the process for obtaining dentures or partials and follow through the care plan.
• Refer patients to the UIHC oral surgery department when treatment cannot be performed on site.
• Prescribe medications as needed to treat patients.
• Answer O’mail messages, provide patient education based on assessments, and, with assistance of the dental assistant, assure proper cleaning and sterilization of instruments.
• Assist in determining supplies to be ordered and identify equipment that needs repair or replacement.
• Work collaboratively with the security team when scheduling patients.

The State of Iowa participates in E-Verify, a federal program that helps employers confirm the employment eligibility of newly hired employees.
