High School Drama Sponsor

A high school drama sponsor manages all aspects of the drama club, from planning and directing productions (typically 2+ shows/year) and rehearsals to handling budgets, equipment (lights, props, sets), and student supervision. Key duties include fostering student appreciation for theatre, managing communications with administration/parents, organizing fundraisers, overseeing auditions, and ensuring fiscal responsibility, including royalties.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Production Management:
  Oversee auditions, rehearsals, set design/construction (with other departments like Woodshop), technical needs, and performances.
• Program Administration:
  Work with school administration to develop budgets, manage inventory (lights, props), and schedule auditorium use.
• Student Supervision:
  Supervise students during all activities, manage behavior, and foster positive growth in performance and technical skills.
• Financial Oversight:
  Manage club funds, handle dues/fundraising, ensure fiscal responsibility, and pay royalties for shows.
• Communication:
  Communicate regularly with students, parents, and school administration.
• Event Planning:
  Organize club meetings, special events (like banquets), and potentially coordinate with music/choir for larger productions.

Key Skills & Qualifications

• Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience in theatre, directing, or coaching student performances is often preferred.
• Ability to mentor students and promote a positive, inclusive environment.

Typical Structure

• Often a part-time, stipend-based, extra-curricular role.
• May involve collaboration with drama club officers and other school departments (music, shop).
