Job Description

Science Teacher 9-12 – East Sac Community Schools is seeking qualified applicants to serve as a full‑time High School Science Teacher for the 2026‑27 school year. This will be for grades 9‑12. Specific teaching assignments and classes will be discussed after learning the candidates’ preferences, strengths, and licensure areas.
This position is open until filled. Applicants who apply early will be given preference. Interviews will be conducted as quality applicants apply.
The Final date to receive applications for this position is February 27th, 2026. Various coaching opportunities exist for the 26‑27 school year as well.

$5000 Signing/Retention Bonus – After successful completion of year one with a contract for year two, the teacher will receive a $2,500 bonus paid in November 2027. After successful completion of year two and a contract for year three, the teacher will receive a $2,500 bonus in November 2028.

East County CSD is located in beautiful Northwest/North Central Iowa and comprises Sac City, Lake View, Wall Lake, and Auburn. The 7‑12 building is in Lake View. Our communities offer many recreational areas, including Black Hawk Lake, and several thriving small businesses and restaurants. We are located south of Hwy 20, 1 hour from Sioux City, 1 hour 20 minutes from the Okoboji Great Lakes, and two hours from Des Moines, Cedar Falls, and Omaha.

The successful candidate will be supported by the HS Principal, an Assistant Principal, veteran science teachers from within the district, a mentoring program, the Superintendent, and the East Sac County Board of Education. Salary and benefits include a competitive starting wage based on degree and experience, IPERS, health insurance, and paid vacation.

Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to develop students’ skills and competence in one or more fields of science, including general science, earth science, biology, physiology, chemistry, and physics; develop students’ skills and abilities in scientific methods and problem‑solving, as well as an understanding of the application of science in the solution of practical problems.

Essential Functions
  • Teach knowledge and skills in one or more fields of science, including general science, earth science, physiology, chemistry, and physics, in accordance with district curriculum.
  • Promote critical and creative thinking and analysis in all related subject areas.
  • Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small‑group instruction, and student learning.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials for the subject area, and translate lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Design learning activities to demonstrate the application of science to everyday existence, including scientific research projects, demonstrations, experiments, and laboratory activities.
  • Instruct students in the proper use and care of scientific equipment, chemicals, and plant and animal life.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modify instructional methods to fit individual students’ needs, including students with special needs; conduct individual and small‑group instruction as needed.
  • Maintain familiarity with district and Connecticut State standardized tests in order to adapt curriculum to maximize student achievement on such tests.
  • Continue to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
