Job Description

TITLE:

0.5 FTE Elementary Principal

LOCATION:

Amana Elementary (Amana, IA)

REPORTS TO:

Superintendent/designee

JOB SUMMARY:

The Principal is responsible for the direction of all personnel who perform their respective functions within the province of the building. This position will be opening a new elementary school building with the district. The Principal is directly responsible to the Superintendent of Schools/designee and is obligated to keep the Superintendent informed of all matters deemed pertinent and relative to the operation of the school unit.

The Principal also performs a staff function serving in an advisory capacity to the Superintendent of Schools for all personnel.

Responsibilities

General Responsibility and Authority Delegated by the Superintendent:

  • Coordinate and Supervise Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment
  • Supervise and implement district curriculum
  • Lead and make suggestions to staff to implement effective practices to improve instruction
  • Build and supervise a building schedule
  • Work directly with Curriculum director to implement district curriculum
  • Data based decision making

Teachers/Support Staff:

  • Develop the professional capacity of school personnel
  • Provide regular professional development
  • Collaborate with AEA staff to provide learning opportunities
  • Collaborate with Leadership teams for school improvement
  • Support PLC process at the building and district level
  • Collaborate with Building Leadership teams
  • Support and provide Social-Emotional learning
  • Collaborate with Instructional Coach
  • Initiate conversations about diversity and culture and the impact on student learning; correct intolerant statements and behaviors; build capacity of staff
  • Manage staff turnover and succession
  • Walk throughs and fidelity checks

Community:

  • Cultivate a culture of learning
  • Communicate regularly
  • Hold regular staff meetings

Evaluation:

  • Follow district guidelines for teacher/support staff evaluation
  • Guide and provide feedback for the Individual Professional Development Plans (IPDPs) for teachers

School Improvement/Shared Vision:

  • Meet regularly with Building Leadership team to set goals and evaluate progress
  • Implement PBIS building-wide expectations for students/staff
  • Develop, advocate, and enact a shared mission, vision, and core values of high-quality education and academic success and well-being of each student
  • Act ethically and according to professional norms to promote each student's academic success and well-being
  • Involve stakeholders in the development or revision of school practices that promote equity and cultural responsiveness
  • Data based decision making
  • Lead as a liaison for school activities and events

Students:

  • Provide care/support
  • Social-emotional learning and support
  • Attend 504/IEP meetings

Discipline:

  • Student discipline system (PBIS)
  • Entry of ODR's
  • Communication of discipline issues with families
  • Enforcement of discipline policies and practices

Families/Community:

  • Report testing data to stakeholders
  • Report discipline data to stakeholders
  • Regular communication with families
  • Meeting with families and stakeholders as needed
  • Attend/participate in School Improvement Committee (SIAC) Meetings
  • Attend and/or collaborate with Parent Teacher Group (PTG) meetings
  • Cultivate an inclusive, caring, and supportive school community
  • Work regularly with district Communications Director

Operations & Management:

  • Oversee/Manage Building Budget
  • Regular communication with district business manager

Facilities:

  • Room assignments
  • Develop and maintain safety protocols
  • Run regular safety drills
  • Oversee cleanliness of building
  • Regular communication with building engineer and district Facilities/Grounds Director

Food Service:

  • Create lunch schedules
  • Lunch supervision
  • Work with building kitchen manager and district food service director

Transportation:

  • Route discipline
  • Schedule field trip transportation
