SUMMARY: The Middle School Reading Interventionist provides targeted, research-based literacy instruction and intervention for students in grades 5-6 who require additional support in reading. This position focuses on accelerating student growth in foundational skills, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension to ensure all students meet grade-level expectations.
The Reading Interventionist collaborates closely with classroom teachers, instructional coaches, and support staff to implement Multi‑Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), monitor student progress, and deliver data‑informed instruction. This role plays a critical part in promoting literacy achievement, closing achievement gaps, and fostering confident, capable readers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES- Deliver small‑group and individual reading intervention aligned with district curriculum, Iowa Academic standards, and evidence‑based literacy practices.
- Use universal screening, diagnostic assessments, and progress‑monitoring tools to identify student needs and measure growth.
- Develop and implement individualized intervention plans based on student data and instructional needs.
- Provide instruction in foundational skills, decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension strategies appropriate for upper elementary learners.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to align intervention strategies with core instruction and support transfer of skills.
- Participate in MTSS problem‑solving teams and contribute to intervention planning and documentation.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, intervention fidelity, attendance, and performance data.
- Communicate regularly with teachers, families, and administrators regarding student progress and instructional recommendations.
- Support literacy goal setting and student ownership of learning.
- Provide accommodations and modifications as required by IEPs, 504 plans, or identified literacy needs.
- Integrate technology and digital literacy tools to enhance instruction and student engagement.
- Participate in required meetings, professional development, and district trainings.
- Promote and adhere to district policies, procedures, and professional standards of conduct.
- Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, Reading, Literacy, or a related field required.
- Experience teaching upper elementary students (grades 3‑6) preferred.
- Experience in reading intervention, MTSS, or structured literacy practices preferred.
- Criminal background check required.
- Valid State of Iowa teaching license required.
- Iowa Elementary Classroom (K‑6) endorsement required.
- Knowledge of the science of reading and evidence‑based literacy instruction.
- Strong understanding of upper elementary reading development and intervention strategies.
- Ability to analyze screening and progress‑monitoring data to inform instruction.
- Ability to design engaging, differentiated instruction that supports diverse learners.
- Ability to use instructional technology, assessment platforms, and district software applications.
- Effective interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to support a culturally responsive and inclusive learning environment.
- Ability to maintain student safety, follow safety procedures, and report concerns to administrators.
- Ability to stay current with district standards, data privacy requirements, and cybersecurity practices related to student information.
