Summary of Position

Under the direction of site administration, performs professional instructional work of moderate difficulty in guiding students toward gaining knowledge and skills to become productive citizens; creates a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth, establishes effective rapport with students, motivates them to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge, and maintains positive relationships with parents and other school and district staff.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the designated location and times.
  • Guide learning to achieve district curriculum goals, communicate clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
  • Create a conducive learning environment suitable for student maturity, interests, and abilities; translate lesson plans into effective learning experiences.
  • Employ diverse instructional techniques and media appropriate to the location and student needs.
  • Implement the district’s philosophy, instructional goals, and performance expectations as outlined in the Teacher Evaluation System.
  • Identify individual student differences and provide appropriate instruction.
  • Use classroom assessment techniques to determine instructional needs, assess student accomplishments, provide regular progress reports, and communicate with parents as needed.
  • Administer group standardized and proficiency tests per district testing programs.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records required by law, policy, and regulations.
  • Take precautions to protect students and maintain equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Develop and enforce a classroom code of conduct aligned with administrative policies.
  • Be available to students and parents during the scheduled workday when required.
  • Plan and participate in professional development activities, including courses, readings, in-service training, and conferences.
  • Communicate with parents, students, and staff in an honest, positive, and constructive manner.
  • Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aides, volunteers, and student teachers; make written evaluations as required.
  • Supervise students during out-of-classroom activities and participate in student activity sponsor ships as appropriate.
  • Adhere to punctuality, reliability, and responsibilities per school policies and regulations.
  • Collaborate with other staff to address student health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Attend building and district meetings to promote communication and mutual decision making.
  • Serve on district committees that develop curriculum and enhance instruction.
Non-Essential Functions

Frequent contact with students, parents, school staff, and district personnel.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Extensive knowledge of effective teaching techniques, student learning strategies, lesson planning, instructional media, classroom assessment, interpersonal communication, and child development stages.

Skill to

Perform multiple, highly complex technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills to meet changing job conditions; operate classroom equipment and software, plan and manage projects, maintain records.
